Week 3

It was so nice to finally be back in person this week!

In class today we learned how to screen record our computers. I think it is a neat tool that could come in handy if/when we ever had to teach online. I thought it was cool that you could have audio and even a video of you describing what you’re doing in the screen recording.

Our lab classroom is sweet! I’m glad we have so many technology resources as I think it’s something that we will be interacting with a lot as educators.

Crochet Project Begins!

This week I went to Michaels and bought crochet hooks and yarn for my bucket hat. There were so many choices it took me forever to choose. I ended up getting 3 crochet hooks of differing sizes and two balls of yarn. I also have started practicing single stitches. It is definitely more difficult than I imagined however it’s fun to do while listening to a podcast or watching TV!

Week 2

In the second week of our tech class, I have become more comfortable with my website and have enjoyed making it my own!

This week, we discussed topics about digital footprints, intellectual property, and digital literacy. Before this lesson, I was unaware of how copyright laws and licenses worked online. As someone who will be using technology as a teacher, these are essential concepts to remember. Additionally, I think it is necessary that I stay aware of my “digital footprint” as someone who hopes to be a teacher. Our online presence is out there forever, and it is important to be conscious of that. With today’s technology usage, I think it is important to learn how to use it to the best of our abilities when teachers. I am excited to learn how better to use WordPress and other online platforms and resources to help my teaching practice!

Week 1

Website creating is harder than I imagined! I created my website without the EDCI 336 template (oops) which has made it slightly more difficult to put it all together. However, after spending a few hours working on it I think I am finally putting it together! I’m very excited that we are learning how to do all this because I’m hoping to make a travel blog one day. Additionally I am excited to learn how to incorporate technology into the classroom as a teacher.

Secondly, for week one we were required to watch the film Most Likely To Succeed. This documentary explored a new and innovative approach to education at a charter school called High Tech High. This film was really inspiring and showed how meaningful learning can be when it is personal to the students. Something that was so admirable was how invested the teachers were when watching their students grow as both a learner and a person. I hope to be as passionate and excited to watch all my students grow as learners but more importantly as good people!

Introduction To My Free Inquiry

For my Free Inquiry project, I have decided to learn how to crochet.

Every winter I re-discover an obsession with toques. I thought about learning to crochet toques so I wouldn’t have to buy them anymore. However, since winter is starting to be behind us I’ve decided to learn how to crochet bucket hats for the summer. I’m hoping that by using this as my first crochet project I will be able to try other crochet projects after this one such as tote bags, toques, and blankets.
